A Terraced Garden
The design utilised the gentle slope to terrace the garden and create three distinct areas. The upper terrace of polished limestone is the main seating area. The raised bed on one side hides a reservoir that feeds a small cascading water feature. The middle terrace contains a specimen tree to add some height, and the main focal point of the garden – a terrazzo birdbath. The lower terrace provides access to the back gate and has a bench under the canopy of the oak tree with a view back up the garden. Two sections of yew hedge will, in time, hide the bins and the gate.
A drip irrigation system was installed to the specimen tree and yew hedge. On a timer with a pressure reducer this complies with the current exemption from Anglian Water, so can be used during a drought.
