This front and side garden was laid to lawn and totally un-used. The clients wanted something more interesting for their neighbours to look at, so most of the garden was planted with a mixture of shrubs and perennials to provide a year round, colourful display. The side and part of the front garden was fenced-off for a potager.

The client didn’t want any lawn so a sweeping path runs from the kitchen door through swathes of herbaceous planting to the centrepiece of the potager, a decagonal cedar greenhouse. Four raised beds fan out around the greenhouse. At the far end of the garden a fence screens an area for compost bins and a water tank. Espalier apple trees are trained against the fence with a bench between to give a pleasant place to rest after all that gardening!
